BMW Mini Reverse

Philips Radio / cassette as fitted to the BMW Mini

This stereo is specifically coded to the engine immobiliser system of the vehicle it came out of using the very sophisticated CAN-BUS system technology. When it is first powered up, it will communicate with the engine immobiliser, and if communication has been successfull, it may prompt for a code to be entered. However, if plugged into another vehicle other than the original one, it will not recognise the engine immobiliser and will not allow a code to be entered. Instead it will lock up and display an error message of "DISABLED". This does mean though, that this model cannot be simply transferred from one vehicle to another without some serious reprogramming.

BMW dealers will tell you that this stereo cannot be reprogrammed to go into another vehicle, but then thats what they said about other models, before we managed to disable and turn off the CANCHECK system !! If you send us this unit we will turn off the CANCHECK function and disable the code circuit allowing it to be used in any BMW Mini, irrespective of whether the car has CANBUS technology or not.

Removal of the radio will involve some dismatling of the centre console. Please consult your service manual for instructions on how to do this.
